Dear Parents, September 1, 2015
According to a CDC estimate, as many as 1.6 - 3.8 million sports and recreation related concussions occur in the US each year. Concussions are one of the most commonly reported injuries in children and adolescents who participate in recreational and school-sponsored athletic activities. Concussions can also occur on school playgrounds or at home.
The MMMUSD nurses often see these types of injuries in our health offices and we have developed a comprehensive guideline to assist in the consistent treatment of this type of head injury. The guideline is simple, easy to follow and mirrors current evidence and research.
Please take a few minutes to review the documents below. If you want additional information about the recognition of concussions and the science behind the guideline please check out the MMMUSD Health information web-site.
Sincerely,
MMMUSD/CESU School Nurses
