Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year at UID. We are a Peanut/Tree Nut Safe School. This means that we provide a safe environment for those students who have a Peanut/Tree Nut Allergy. To ensure a Peanut/Tree Nut Safe Environment, we have measures in place to avoid contact of peanut/tree nut allergens with someone who may have a severe reaction to them.
The guidelines are as follows:
- Peanut/Nut safe snacks ONLY are allowed in the classrooms. This means that the product is not made in a facility that has peanut or tree nut products.
- Home-baked goods MUST be labeled “Nut-Safe” or they will not be eaten in the
classroom.
- Bulk products from home MUST be labeled “Nut-Safe” or they will not be eaten in the
classroom.
- Snacks and cold lunches MUST be packed separately.
- Upon entering the building the children will place the lunches in the classroom bins
provided and take the Peanut/Tree nut SAFE SNACK into the classroom.
- We do not have a separate table for students’ with a peanut/tree nut allergy in the cafeteria (although we can make this accommodation if needed). We do ask that students not share food and keep their hands in their own space during lunch.
- All students will wash hands with soap and water after lunch to prevent cross contamination in the
classrooms.
- Eating on the school bus is not allowed.
We appreciate your cooperation and attention to this important guideline to ensure a
safe and healthy environment for our children. Always review food labels when determining if
it is a Peanut/Tree Nut Safe Snack.
Act 175 permits students with allergies to possess and self administer emergency medications. Medical release forms and demonstration of competency from MD are necessary.
Please take a moment to peruse the following website on Peanut/Tree Nut Allergies. It is a very
